I wanted to write a lil blog update!
so,
STAR QUEST IS IN PRODUCTION
and I'm REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT
Star Quest is my WIP comic that I've had in my head since 2011. It's a sci-fi fantasy comic about a group of space traveling aliens saving their universe from a deity who wants to destroy it. If you've taken a peek at the gallery or sketchbook, you've seen the cast before!
This story has gone through so. many. revisions. over the past 12 or so years and this version is the one I'm happiest with. In fact I might even write up a blog post where I go through my old drafts and write my thoughts about them...
Here's a few WIP shots that I've posted across Bluesky, Twitter, and Tumblr.

I started working on Star Quest thumbnails earlier this month and I happened to finish the first page earlier today. It feels super surreal to say that Star Quest could be real by Spring 2024, but it makes me so happy to say that. Star Quest will be real very soon!!
I've also given an update to the site Star Quest will be hosted on when I get around to posting it. Take a look!
And with this you're probably wondering about Caltonia. I plan to talk about this on it's site later this year, but the short answer is that Caltonia will be on a longer hiatus. I don't know when it'll be back, but it will. I really burnt myself out from working on pages and I need an extended break from it. For any new budding comic artists out there, don't fully render your pages! Unless you really want to haha. But watch out!
Caltonia did teach me a lot about my limits when it comes to comics and I'll be taking those to heart while working on Star Quest. Here's just a few things I learned:
- Do concept art for one chapter at a time, have those references on hand while you draw
- Colour is a big thing in my comics, so keeping track of what characters look like under different lighting situations is important
- Do not render unless it's for a cover page. Do flats only!
And since Star Quest will be in flats only except for cover pages, it was hard to fight the urge to start adding cel shading to panels while working on the first two pages. I know that's how I felt when I started changing my process for finishing Caltonia pages. But, it is nice to put a cap on the page after flats. Sometimes I'll finish it and go "wait, I'm done??". It's for the best though!
Here's some new art that was posted inside the gallery and sketchbook! More art will be added to the sketchbook throughout the week~

Also, before I go, I accquired Kirby Star Allies and played it for the first time and finished its main story. Void Termina's boss fight whips ass btw

this can apply to both kirby and star quest lmao
